Seven rains after…

the curse had been on
taking
claiming
almost everyone…
friends bandits; brothers at arms
you’ve spelled
avoided
counting the rains
the reckoning has passed
or will pass with this rain
the final tram
with its trickles
swooshes
and airless winds
curses broken
offences spelled
you savour the wind
taste it
storm’s coming
another’s going
the air crackles with it
the smell of lightning
of rain and everything else
you love it
the wind
the way it holds you
the way she surfs through you
then something rustles
unseen
cloaked
in the dark
squirrels
mice
sticks perhaps?
you try to see
you reach for the light
but you came out without it
you try again
your blood runs cold
two strikes
of lightning
brighten the ground
in front of you
reptiles
two
large
curled
tongues
forked
flickering
heads
reared
ready to strike.
